Plano 6303

When I was about eight years old, I was given my very own tackle box; a classic Plano three-tray box in a nice two-tone, dirt-inspired brown — Model 6303. At the time, I remember thinking that it was extravagant; too much perhaps for one young man to have at his disposal. The fish wouldn’t stand a chance! With three rows of compartments for lures, hooks, weights and bobbers, it seemed I would never grow out of the utility of this product.

And you know what? I never did…it’s in my garage to this day!

Made of thick plastic and a few brass pins and latches, the box has stood the test of time better than many other things in my life. The first thing I did was put my full name and home phone number on the underside of the box, which you can read to this day (Sharpie being, evidently, something else that stands the test of time). Whenever I see it now, I can remember the countless times I’ve hauled that box to local ponds in search of bluegill, streams full of crawdads and carp, and most famously to a family friend’s private lake containing big mouth bass capable of consuming small birds.

Here’s to the great things in life and the memories they enable.
